#PetPower - a pet-friendly virtual event
On October 1st, just ahead of World Animal Day we organised an online discussion about the importance of pets in our lives. How they made life better during the lockdown. How they assist us in life and health. And how we can improve wellbeing for both, pets and people.
We joined together with the pet food association FEDIAF to organise this virtual event and start an online conversation on #PetPower.
Our panel of experts included:
- MEP Petras Auštrevičius, VP of the Animal Welfare Intergroup: sharing views on the positive role pets play in society and the importance of better care for pets
- IAHAIO President, Dr. Marie-José Enders-Slegers: talking about Human-Animal bond research, and the need for the relationship between pets and people to be a two-way street
- Medical Detection Dogs CEO, Dr Claire Guest: speaking about the power of dogs for detecting human diseases and the COVID-19 Detection Dogs in training
- EU Dog and Cat Alliance chair, Suzie Carley: discussing responsible pet ownership, why ‘A dog is for life, not just for lockdown’ and EU policy for pets.
The Telegraph’s Brussels correspondent James Crisp moderated the discussion.
This event builds on the long-term work of AnimalhealthEurope and FEDIAF in promoting the importance of responsible pet ownership and highlighting the very important role pets play in society. Moving forward, we’ll be exploring the science behind this human-animal bond further, and we hope that you – and your pets – can be with us as we take our first steps!
